Hello Ulis,
I just read the Telegraph article. Digital radio is the typical industry "solution in search of a problem" which will only cause more problems. It is a make work project for the few who will benefit from it. Not only "making analog radio obsolete" will be one outcome, but limited range and restrictive coding will actually control listeners choices preventing them from receiving the out of the area stations. Lastly the sound of digital is not any better than anything now available, especially analog FM stereo. So there is not any good reason to replace the existing universally usable system.

Great article. I've had one since 1981, ordered new from Japan. Once my daughter found it played loud in the kitchen, I never got it back in my shack. Then she went to college, and my wife adopted it. They like the analog controls, I think, and its digital display. And it plays loud for them. Just found a 4800 at the thrift store. Seems to work ok, couple of screws and handles missing. It's the European version with long wave. Seems to work, just needs a working digital display. One extra, Panasonic did offer a matching speaker the same size and metal as the 4900. $25 plus s/h at the time. Wish I had ordered one too, I've never seen one since...
